Inglewood Care Centre Q&A

Inglewood Campus of Care, proposed by non-profit group Baptist Housing, is due before West Vancouver Council soon, after which it goes to a public hearing.

It envisages a seniors’ community where residents would have access to different levels of support, or a ‘continuum of care’, from independent residences right through to long-term care.

Planned in association with Vancouver Coastal Health, BC Housing and the Ministry of Health, the proposal includes:

  • 350 publicly-funded, long-term care suites;

  • 48 affordable housing suites for seniors;

  • 200 independent living, rental suites; plus

  • 107 affordable suites for staff.

Residents will have access to shared amenities such as a bistro, dining room, gyms, salon, town hall, activity rooms, quiet courtyards, covered walkways and landscaped gardens.

Covid-19 prompted a national discussion about all aspects of seniors’ care, particularly long-term care beds, and care at home, both in short supply in West Vancouver.

Located at Taylor Way and Inglewood Avenue, the facility will take seven years to complete, over three phases. It has generated concerns about traffic, but also interest in innovative design features.
